  • Permitted locations: ADUs and Junior ADUs (JADUs) may be built on lots with existing single- or multi-family homes per the Orange County Zoning Code.
  • Quantity allowed: Single-family lots can include one ADU and one JADU; multi-family parcels may add two detached ADUs plus conversions of existing spaces.
  • Size limits: Detached ADUs up to 1,200 sq. ft.; attached ADUs limited to 50 percent of the main home’s size or 1,200 sq. ft., whichever is smaller.
  • Setbacks: Minimum 4 ft from side and rear property lines (Orange County Zoning Ordinance §7-9-150).
